What Do You Need to Give Up to Grow?

What’s the ONE thing you can STOP doing that will transform your sales results or life?

Back in 2013, I had a truly transformative experience that changed both my life and sales results.

“What do you need to give up to grow?

That question was asked by a former Ugandan soccer player, Stone Kymabadde, at the end of his keynote at a Franklin Covey sales kick-off.

It was a question that struck me to the core.

I hadn’t thought about giving something up or stopping a habit or behaviour to get better results. I’d always thought in terms of what can I do more of to get better results…more exercise, more healthy food, more sleep, more water, more calls, more emails, more meetings, more proposals - more more more!

The first thing that leaped into my head when hearing that question from Stone was this: stop drinking.

So I ran with it.

With a clearer head, I also got a lot more energy. And with more energy, I started to exercise more and eat healthier. I started to lose weight and work out with a bodybuilding champion. I dropped 50lbs in under 6 months (if memory serves me it might have been in 4 months) from 250lbs to 199lbs (ok, 51lbs then ).

And my sales results improved dramatically. My name was in the top 5 of the top producer leader board…consistently.

I went dry for the next 2 years and a bit. It became my new normal, and sales and fitness results were sustained.

Over the next few years, I wasn't quite as strict - and whilst sales performance wasn’t impacted very much, I certainly lost my fitness. 

However, while trekking in Spain last year, I was reminded of the 'give up to grow' question. It kicked me back into action and my health, weight and energy levels have taken a swift turn for the better again. I've even got energy to spare and have started 2 new business ventures as well as my sales consulting. 

So, that's what I gave/give up to grow to improve my life and sales results.
